Anna Dimitriou was born in Athens in 1972. She studied film and television direction at the Stavrakos School. She expanded her studies into theater direction, working simultaneously on various television shows and in theater. She is self-taught in the art of collage, initially starting with digital collage in 2006 and expanding into analog collage ten years later in 2016. As a collage artist, she has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, and other cities in Greece and abroad, earning numerous distinctions. Her activities, however, do not stop there. She is involved in writing, designs posters and covers for alternative magazines, and operates on Instagram under the pseudonym “Canndyblue.”
Since 2017, she has also been involved in street art, creating collages in public spaces. She is known for her works in abandoned buildings of historical significance, which she decorates with murals as a form of artistic protest against their abandonment by the state. She is mainly inspired by the old world, especially the first decades of the 20th century, maintaining a continuous dialogue with the past. She combines paste-up with materials from old photographs using the décalcomanie technique, thus creating completely surrealistic clothes and forms. She mainly depicts female figures from the past, adding a contemporary element, while the viewer can identify elements of retro and romanticism. Dimitriou’s art truly stands at a crossroads of eras, somewhere between today and yesterday. Her work has managed to capture attention and very positive reviews.
